Traders flag traffic mismanagement, seek concrete steps in CCI meeting with SSPs

Arun Gupta urges proactive measures to ease congestion, protect perishable goods trade

Jammu, 04-10-2025: On the invitation of the President Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Sh. Arun Gupta SSP Traffic Sh. Farooq Qaiser and SSP Traffic Rural Sh. Girdhari Lal Sharma visited Chamber House and interacted with the members of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry. While welcoming the dignitaries in the meeting Sh. Arun Gupta said today’s meeting has been arranged to discuss the traffic movement, especially during the period when there was heavy rain and flash floods. Sh. Arun Gupta expressed that during this period, the traffic movement was completely restricted by the authorities, even the trucks carrying the perishable items were not allowed to proceed further to their destinations due to which our traders dealing in perishable  & other items suffered undue heavy losses.  However, on our request, the Vehicles carrying perishable items were allowed to move towards their destinations.

Sh. Arun Gupta said that no doubt the situation was very critical and the department made efforts to clear the traffic congestion but despite some officers and traffic personnel on duty could not handle the situation properly and they did not allow the traffic movement due to non direction from the authorities.

Sh. Arun Gupta asked  that in case of lack of manpower the department should have taken the help of NGO’s and other civil societies members to clear the traffic congestion Sh. Arun Gupta also pointed out that such type of situation did not arise earlier even when there was single lane road system.

Sh. Sham Lal Langer, Sh. Surinder Singh Kala, Sh. Ashwani Sharma, Sh. Deepak Gupta President Traders Federation Warehouse also spoke on the issue of non-cooperation by some of the officers and traffic personnel on duty but SSP Traffic Jammu and SSP Traffic Rural were very much cooperative. In the coming days this type of situation should not arise for which we have to take some concrete measures.

In their reaction SSP Rural and SSP traffic Jammu said that we were not expecting this type of situation as sometimes the drivers of the vehicles did not cooperate and listen to the traffic personnel on duty and due to which the traffic system got disturbed. They said that they have tried their best to listen to all the traders dealing in perishable items especially from Fruit Mandi, Sabzi Mandi , Warehouse and tried our best to release their vehicles on priority basis to minimize their losses and even they asked the traders from Sabzi Mandi, Fruit Mandi, Warehouse and other areas wherever these perishable items are traded, they may send their vehicles number through message so that those vehicles are released on priority to minimize the losses.
