Banihal, June 8: A truck driver from Pampore lost his life in a road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway after the vehicle he was driving overturned near Nachlana in Ramban district on Monday morning.
According to officials, the accident occurred when a canter truck bearing registration number JK02DU-9275, travelling from the Kashmir Valley towards Jammu, met with an accident along the highway stretch in Tehsil Banihal. The vehicle reportedly overturned, causing fatal injuries to the driver.
The deceased was identified as Mohd Zafar, son of Mohd Kassim, a resident of Pampore in Pulwama district.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, police personnel and rescue teams rushed to the location and initiated necessary procedures. The body was subsequently shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for medico-legal formalities.
Authorities said the exact circumstances leading to the mishap have not yet been established. Investigators are examining the scene and collecting details to determine the cause of the accident.
The incident briefly drew the attention of commuters on the busy national highway, which serves as the primary road link between Jammu and Kashmir.
