Former US President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused the United Nations of orchestrating “three very sinister events” during his recent visit to the UN headquarters in New York, describing them as deliberate acts to undermine him on the world stage. He called for an official investigation, asserting that the incidents were so serious that the Secret Service is now involved.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the sequence of events as a “REAL DISGRACE.” According to him, the first incident involved an escalator abruptly halting while he and First Lady Melania Trump were ascending to the main speaking floor. Trump claimed the couple narrowly avoided injury and accused UN staffers of joking about stopping the escalator deliberately.
The second incident occurred when Trump’s teleprompter failed, forcing him to deliver the first 15 minutes of his speech from memory. He later noted that the speech received “fantastic reviews” despite the technical failure.
The third issue involved a complete audio breakdown in the General Assembly hall, preventing world leaders from hearing the speech unless they used interpreter earpieces. Trump called this combination of events “triple sabotage” and demanded that all related security tapes, particularly those concerning the escalator, be preserved.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt supported Trump’s claims, urging an immediate investigation and accountability if the escalator stop was intentional. Video footage of the stalled escalator went viral online, showing Melania Trump jolting forward in high heels as the couple opted to ascend the halted escalator rather than switch to a working one.
Trump also reiterated his long-standing criticism of the UN during the speech, accusing the organization of failing in its peacekeeping duties and aiding illegal migration. He said the UN has “aided migrants in violating and assaulting” the borders of Western countries, further questioning its effectiveness in global governance.
The former president’s allegations have drawn international attention, with Trump asserting that the incidents were coordinated attempts to embarrass him, labeling them a “disgrace” and demanding accountability from the UN Secretary-General.
