US, Jan 21 : Marking one year of his second term in office, US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he prevented a war between India and Pakistan from escalating into a nuclear conflict, listing it among the key achievements of his first 365 days back in the White House.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Trump said he had helped end eight conflicts globally, including a brief but intense military confrontation between India and Pakistan last year. “I settled eight wars,” Trump said. “India and Pakistan were going to go nuclear in my opinion. Eight planes were shot down.”
Claiming his intervention saved millions of lives, Trump said, “That could have been 10, 15, maybe 20 million people. They’re both nuclear countries.”
Trump further said Pakistan’s prime minister had personally credited him with preventing a catastrophe. “The prime minister of Pakistan was here, and he said President Trump saved 10 million people and maybe much more than that,” he claimed.
The remarks refer to a four day military escalation in May last year following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, triggering missile and drone exchanges between the two nuclear armed neighbours.
India has consistently maintained that the ceasefire was negotiated directly between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, without third-party mediation. New Delhi has never officially acknowledged any role played by Trump or the United States in halting the conflict.
Pakistan, however, has publicly credited Trump for defusing tensions and even nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, a nomination that ultimately did not result in an award.
Trump again voiced frustration over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. “I should have gotten the Nobel Prize for each war,” he said. “But I don’t say that. I saved millions and millions of people.”
He also dismissed Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre’s assertion that the Nobel committee operates independently of the Norwegian government. “Don’t let anyone tell you that Norway doesn’t control the shots,” Trump said, adding praise for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Later, the White House released a statement titled ‘365 Wins in 365 Days’, highlighting Trump’s accomplishments during his first year in office.
“President Trump returned to office with a resounding mandate to restore prosperity, secure the border, rebuild American strength, and put the American people first,” the statement said, calling his first year “the most accomplished of any presidential term in modern history.”
The administration cited achievements including negative net migration for the first time in 50 years, a record drop in homicides, trillions of dollars in reshored investments, expanded energy production, multiple peace deals, and large-scale federal bureaucracy cuts.
“President Trump has put America First with urgency and he’s just getting started,” the statement added.
