New York/Washington, Nov 11: The United States shares a “fantastic” relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Donald Trump said on Monday, emphasizing India’s role as an important economic and strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
Trump made the remarks during the swearing in ceremony of Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India at the Oval Office. He highlighted Gor’s close rapport with PM Modi and expressed confidence that the ambassador would strengthen bilateral ties, promote US investments, expand security cooperation, and boost American energy exports.
“Knowing that Sergio is going to be the Ambassador, they would call constantly to say, ‘let’s get to know this man’, and they like what they see,” Trump said. He described India, with its rapidly growing middle class and population of 1.5 billion, as a vital partner in global trade and strategic security.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President J D Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Senator Lindsey Graham, and other officials. Trump lauded Gor as an outstanding representative who would enhance US-India relations and strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Gor recently met PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Delhi, with both leaders expressing optimism about further deepening the bilateral relationship. Trump also noted that as Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Gor would serve as a key link with nations in a critical geopolitical region.
