Washington, Aug. 6: US President Donald Trump on Thursday rejected reports suggesting a shortage of military ammunition, claiming that the United States possesses extensive reserves of weapons and is continuing to expand defence production capabilities.
Responding to media reports over concerns about declining munitions supplies amid the Iran conflict, Trump said the country has “massive amounts” of certain categories of ammunition and dismissed suggestions that US military resources were under strain.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said additional supplies were being produced and delivered as required. He added that defence companies were increasing manufacturing capacity through the construction of new plants and factories.
The remarks came after reports claimed Trump had sought explanations from Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth over concerns related to weapons availability. Some media reports suggested that shortages of advanced missiles and air defence interceptors had influenced US military planning during the conflict.
A report cited discussions at Camp David, claiming Trump questioned the status of military stockpiles and sought assurances regarding the availability of key weapons systems. However, White House officials strongly denied the claims, calling the reports inaccurate.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected the reports, saying the alleged exchange between Trump and Hegseth did not take place. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell also dismissed claims about internal disagreements and weapons shortages as false.
Trump further criticised those responsible for leaking information about military matters, saying individuals behind what he described as damaging disclosures were being investigated and could face legal action.
The debate over US military supplies has emerged amid heightened tensions with Iran, with reports suggesting that the availability of certain advanced weapons could affect operational decisions. Trump, however, maintained that the country’s defence capabilities remain strong and that production is increasing.
Meanwhile, diplomatic uncertainty continues as Iran has denied claims of ongoing negotiations with Washington, despite Trump stating that Tehran was interested in reaching an agreement.
