Doda Police Register Cases Against VPN Users for Breaching Prohibitory Orders

Doda, Dec 27: Doda Police have booked two individuals in separate incidents for allegedly violating prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate by using Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications, officials said on Saturday.

According to police, a patrol team from Police Post Bhagla Bharth, under Police Station Doda, was conducting routine checks in Bagla Main Market around 3.30 pm when they noticed a man actively using a VPN application on his mobile phone. On being questioned, the individual failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and was taken to the police post for verification.

The person was later identified as Khalid Abrar, son of Mohammad Abdullah Butt, a resident of Bagla Bharth. As the use of VPN applications has been expressly prohibited under orders issued by the District Magistrate, Doda, a case was registered against him. Accordingly, FIR No. 279/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was lodged at Police Station Doda, and further investigation has been initiated.

In a separate incident, police personnel detected another individual using a VPN application at Shali Pul in the Gandoh area. The individual was identified as Mohd Irfan, son of Abdul Latief, a resident of Tendla village in Tehsil Chilli. He was also found to be in violation of the District Magistrate’s prohibitory orders.

Following the detection, FIR No. 125/2025 under Section 223 BNS was registered at Police Station Gandoh, and further investigation is underway.

Police officials reiterated that the restrictions on the use of VPN applications are part of preventive measures aimed at maintaining law and order in the district. Doda Police have appealed to the general public to strictly adhere to the orders issued by the District Administration and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the interest of public safety and security.
