Two School Students Die, Several Injured After Bus Overturns On Amritsar-Pathankot Highway

Five passengers injured, including three with serious head injuries, after private bus meets with accident near Gurdaspur

CHANDIGARH, May 22: Two students from Jammu lost their lives while five others sustained injuries after a private bus overturned on the Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway on Friday, police officials said.

According to authorities, the victims were both around 23 years old and were studying at a college in Punjab. The accident occurred while several students were travelling in the bus along with other passengers.

Station House Officer Rajwant Kaur said nearly 10 students were among those travelling in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Following the accident, emergency teams and local residents rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations to assist the injured passengers.

Police said five people suffered injuries in the mishap, including three passengers who sustained serious head injuries. The injured were immediately shifted to a hospital in Gurdaspur for treatment.

Officials stated that the exact reason behind the accident has not yet been determined. Authorities are investigating whether overspeeding, mechanical failure or road conditions may have contributed to the incident.

The tragic accident has once again raised concerns regarding passenger safety and road accidents on busy national highways in Punjab.
