Udhampur, Feb 04 : Security forces are preparing to launch a decisive operation against two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants sheltering inside a natural cave in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said on Wednesday. No firing was reported overnight as personnel maintained a strict watch on the area.
The militants were traced on Tuesday afternoon by joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force during a search operation in the Jaffer forest near Ramnagar. Their discovery led to a fierce gun battle that continued for over an hour.
Reinforcements deployed after escape attempt
Officials said one militant was believed to have been injured during the exchange but managed to withdraw into the cave along with his associate. Later in the evening, fresh gunfire and loud explosions were heard when the duo reportedly tried to escape under the cover of darkness.
Additional troops including paratroopers and dog squads were immediately inducted to strengthen the cordon and block possible exit routes.
Surveillance intensified ahead of operation
Through the night, security personnel relied on drone surveillance while holding their positions around the hideout. Authorities indicated that preparations are now underway for a final assault to neutralise the militants, who have so far refused to surrender.
The operation remains ongoing, with forces maintaining heightened alertness across the surrounding forested terrain.
