Ukraine Calls Latest Peace Talks With US, Europe ‘Productive’

Discussions in Florida focused on security guarantees, 20-point peace plan and next steps

Ukraine, Dec 22 : On Sunday said its latest round of talks with the United States and European partners in Florida were “productive and constructive,” as diplomatic efforts to find a negotiated end to the conflict continue.

Ukraine’s top peace negotiator Rustem Umerov said discussions held over the past three days focused on further developing a proposed 20-point peace plan, aligning positions on multilateral and US security guarantee frameworks, and advancing an economic and prosperity plan for Ukraine. The sides also discussed timelines and the sequencing of next steps, according to a post by Umerov on social media.

“Ukraine remains fully committed to achieving a just and sustainable peace,” Umerov said. “Our shared priority is to stop the killing, ensure guaranteed security, and create conditions for Ukraine’s recovery, stability and long-term prosperity.”

He stressed that peace must go beyond a simple cessation of hostilities and serve as a durable foundation for long-term stability, adding that Ukraine would maintain close coordination with the United States and Europe in the next phase of talks.

Umerov said key European national security advisers joined the meetings to align a shared strategic approach between Ukraine, the US and Europe.

US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff also described the meetings as “productive and constructive” in a statement posted on X. The Ukrainian delegation included Umerov, who also serves as Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, and Andriy Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The US delegation comprised Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and White House staff member Josh Gruenbaum.

Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev held talks with US officials in Miami over the weekend, describing those discussions as constructive. At his annual year-end press conference in Moscow on Friday, Putin said Russia was open to ending the Ukraine conflict through negotiations, adding that the next steps depended on Ukraine and its European backers.
