Union Cabinet Approves 85 New Kendriya Vidyalayas and 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas Nationwide

Over 82,000 Students to Benefit as Govt Clears ₹5,872 Crore for New KVs and NVs

New Delhi, Dec 6: The Union Cabinet, in a significant stride towards improving education and infrastructure, has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs). Additionally, one existing Kendriya Vidyalaya will be expanded, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday.

These new educational institutions will collectively accommodate over 82,000 students, offering them access to affordable, high-quality education across the country. The move reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the educational landscape and ensuring inclusivity.

The project, set to be implemented over eight years starting in 2025-26, will require an estimated investment of ₹5,872.08 crore. As of now, there are 1,256 Kendriya Vidyalayas operating nationwide, including three international branches in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran, catering to over 13.56 lakh students, as per official records.

In another landmark decision, the Cabinet approved the 26.463-km Rithala-Kundli corridor under the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project. This elevated stretch will include 21 stations and is expected to significantly enhance connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. The project will serve as an extension of the existing Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda)-Rithala Red Line corridor and improve accessibility to key areas in Delhi’s northwestern regions, such as Narela, Bawana, and Rohini.

The Rithala-Kundli corridor is projected to be completed within four years of its sanction, with an estimated completion cost of ₹6,230 crore. During a press briefing, Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the transformative impact of the project on regional connectivity and urban mobility.

These decisions, taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscore the government’s dual focus on fostering educational opportunities and addressing critical infrastructure needs. With these approvals, the nation moves a step closer to its goal of equitable growth and modernized urban development.
