HYDERABAD, May 17: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday said his family has complete faith in the judiciary and expressed confidence that truth would emerge after his son Bageerath was arrested in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The development came a day after the Telangana High Court declined to grant interim protection from arrest to Bageerath. Following the court’s decision, police arrested him on Saturday night and he was later remanded to judicial custody by a magistrate.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the union minister described the past week as one of the most emotionally challenging periods for his family. He said they experienced anxiety, helplessness and intense emotional pressure during the ongoing legal proceedings.
Kumar stated that his mother suffered a heart stroke amid the stressful situation, calling it a deeply traumatic experience for the entire family. Despite the circumstances, he thanked supporters, party workers and well-wishers across the country for standing by them and offering emotional support.
The senior BJP leader maintained that neither he nor his family had committed any wrongdoing and reiterated that they would continue to pursue the matter through legal channels.
“We have complete faith in the legal process and truth will ultimately prevail,” Kumar said, while urging party workers not to become emotionally distracted by the controversy.
He also appealed to BJP cadre in Telangana to remain focused on strengthening the party organisation and continue working towards the party’s political goals and ideology.
According to police officials, the case was registered on May 8 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act after the mother of a 17-year-old girl lodged a complaint against Bageerath.
The complaint alleged that he was in a relationship with the minor and had sexually harassed her. Investigators later added stricter provisions under the POCSO Act after recording the girl’s statement.
Meanwhile, Bageerath also filed a separate complaint claiming that the girl had invited him to family gatherings and social events after they became acquainted. Police confirmed that an FIR was registered based on his allegations as well.
The case has triggered significant political attention in Telangana, with reactions emerging from both supporters and critics of the BJP leadership in the state. Authorities, however, have maintained that the investigation will proceed strictly according to legal procedure.
Kumar concluded his statement by asserting that his family would face the difficult period with patience, courage and faith in the justice system, adding that justice may take time but would eventually prevail.
