13-06-2023: Prominent social activist, Adv Mohd Majid Malik, has expressed deep concern over the loss of residential houses and property caused by the recent earthquake that struck the Chenab Valley in Bhaderwah. He has called for the compensation of those whose houses have been partially damaged in the earthquake, emphasizing the need for support in rebuilding their homes. Malik has highlighted that several reports have emerged from various areas of Bhaderwah, particularly from places like Dandi near the tourist hut, indicating the partial damage of numerous houses due to the earthquake.
Malik further notes that Bhaderwah, despite being home to many bureaucrats and politicians, remains one of the most underdeveloped and backward areas in Jammu and Kashmir. The residents, already grappling with unemployment and lack of opportunities, are unable to rebuild their damaged houses. He appeals to both the Jammu and Kashmir government and the Central government to announce and sanction a special package aimed at assisting all the affected individuals in reconstructing their residential structures. He suggests an amount of Rs. 5 lahks for completely damaged houses and Rs. 3 lakh for those that have incurred partial damage.
In addition, Malik urges the UT Administration to dispatch high-level assessment teams to the affected areas of Chenab Valley, specifically Bhaderwah, to evaluate the extent of the losses. He emphasizes the importance of providing adequate compensation to the victims of the earthquake, enabling them to recover and rebuild their lives. Malik’s plea underscores the immediate need for government intervention and support in alleviating the hardships faced by the earthquake-affected individuals and communities in Bhaderwah and the Chenab Valley.
