NEW DELHI, Sept 7: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor held discussions with senior executives of Amazon on Monday, focusing on the company’s growing presence in India and opportunities to further strengthen economic cooperation between the United States and India.
Gor described the meeting as a “good discussion” and said the talks covered Amazon’s India footprint, greater opportunities for US businesses and efforts to deepen bilateral economic relations.
“American innovation is a powerful force around the world,” Gor said in a post on X, adding that his discussion with Amazon executives centred on the company’s operations in India, expanding opportunities for US businesses and strengthening US-India economic ties.
The meeting comes as Washington and New Delhi continue to explore ways to expand commercial engagement and create opportunities for businesses in both countries.
A day earlier, Gor highlighted the expanding scope of the India-US partnership while speaking at an event in Bengaluru marking 250 years of American freedom.
The US envoy said the relationship between the two countries now spans several key areas, including trade, defence, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and space.
Gor said the anniversary was an occasion to reflect on America’s history, but emphasised that his diplomatic focus in India was on achieving concrete results and taking the bilateral partnership forward.
“250 years, that’s worth celebrating. But President Trump didn’t send me to India to look back. He sent me here to get things done and look forward,” he said.
He stressed that the objective was to deliver “real results” for people in both countries while identifying practical areas of cooperation.
According to Gor, the two nations should continue looking for opportunities that offer mutual benefits and contribute to stronger economic and strategic engagement.
“Every week, we look to identify examples of win-win situations for both of our nations,” the US envoy said.
The engagement with Amazon comes against the backdrop of the broader push to deepen India-US commercial ties, with American companies continuing to expand their presence across India’s rapidly growing digital and technology driven economy.
