US Justice Department Uncovers Million More Documents Linked to Jeffrey Epstein

DOJ says records will be released in coming weeks after legal review under Epstein Files Transparency Act.

Washington, Dec 25: The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Wednesday that it has uncovered more than one million additional documents “potentially related” to the Jeffrey Epstein case, with plans to release them in the coming weeks following a legal review.

In a post on X, the DOJ said the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) informed the department about the newly identified records. The documents have been submitted to the DOJ for review in accordance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, existing statutes and judicial orders.

“We have lawyers working around the clock to review and make the legally required redactions to protect victims,” the DOJ said, adding that the volume of material could delay the release by a few weeks. The department said it would continue to comply with federal law and presidential directives to make the files public.

Earlier on Tuesday, the DOJ released nearly 30,000 additional pages of Epstein-related documents, while cautioning that some contained “untrue” and “sensationalist” claims against President Donald Trump.

In a separate post, the DOJ said allegations made against Trump in the documents were unfounded and false, noting that they had been submitted to the FBI shortly before the 2020 presidential election. “If the claims had any credibility, they would have already been weaponised,” the department said, reiterating its commitment to transparency while protecting victims.

Among the released material is a 2021 subpoena issued to the Mar-a-Lago Club, founded by Trump in 1995, related to a probe involving Epstein’s former girlfriend and convicted accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, according to CNN.

The documents also include a letter signed “J Epstein” and addressed to convicted sex offender Larry Nassar, reportedly sent in the same month Epstein died by suicide in 2019. The letter contains indirect references to Trump, using the phrase “our president,” but does not name him explicitly.

However, the DOJ said the FBI has confirmed the letter is fake, noting that the handwriting does not match Epstein’s and that the letter was postmarked three days after his death.

The Epstein Files Transparency Act was passed last month, prompting the release of documents related to Epstein, who was charged as a sex offender before his death in federal custody.
