US Pushes Energy Alliance With India During Rubio’s Strategic Visit

Washington focuses on oil exports, defense cooperation and Indo-Pacific security amid global supply uncertainty

US, May 21 : The United States has intensified efforts to strengthen its strategic and energy partnership with India during the high-profile visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to New Delhi. The visit comes at a crucial moment as India faces mounting pressure on energy imports due to instability in West Asia and rising global crude prices.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said Washington is keen to increase exports of American oil and liquefied natural gas to India. He described India as an important long-term partner in ensuring stable global energy markets.

The discussions between the two countries are expected to focus on energy security, trade expansion, military technology sharing and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific. Rubio is also expected to meet officials from the Quad alliance comprising India, the United States, Japan and Australia.

India’s energy concerns have grown after disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz following tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States. The closure of key shipping routes has caused sharp fluctuations in global oil prices and affected energy-dependent economies.

The United States is positioning itself as a reliable supplier while also seeking deeper strategic cooperation with India to counter China’s growing regional influence. Analysts believe the visit could pave the way for stronger defense agreements and expanded economic ties between the two democracies.
