US Under Secretary of War Arrives in India for High-Level Talks with Senior Officials

Discussions to focus on strengthening bilateral defence ties amid rising geopolitical tensions

New Delhi: US Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby has arrived in India for high-level engagements with senior officials, in a visit that gains significance against the backdrop of escalating tensions in West Asia.

According to an official statement, the visit aims to advance the strategic partnership between India and the United States, with discussions centred on implementing key objectives outlined in the joint vision agreed upon by both nations’ leadership. The talks are also expected to reinforce cooperation under the framework of the Major Defense Partnership.

This marks Colby’s first official visit to India, highlighting the importance Washington places on deepening defence and security collaboration with New Delhi. His trip follows recent visits by other top US military leaders, signalling sustained engagement between the two countries.

The timing of the visit is notable, as the ongoing conflict in West Asia has disrupted critical supply chains, impacting the flow of essential commodities such as oil, gas and fertilisers to several nations, including India.

Amid these developments, India has reiterated its diplomatic stance, calling for de-escalation and peaceful resolution of the conflict. The government has also raised concerns over attacks on commercial shipping and disruptions to key international waterways.

The visit is expected to further strengthen coordination between the two countries on regional security challenges, while also helping stabilise ties that have seen occasional strain due to trade and geopolitical differences.
