Lucknow, Jan 3: Uttar Pradesh has accounted for 28% of the 17.26 lakh toilets constructed across India in the current financial year, officials informed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a meeting with the Panchayati Raj Department on Friday.
UP was assigned a target of 9.67 lakh toilets, of which 4.79 lakh have already been constructed, placing the state first among all states in individual toilet construction.
The meeting also highlighted progress in plastic waste management units, with 103 completed out of 282 targets across 304 development blocks, and another 132 units under construction.
CM Yogi lauded the department’s revenue collection, noting that Rs 271.48 crore had been collected till November, achieving 140.89% of the target for this financial year.
The Chief Minister directed the completion of Utsav Bhavans in all gram panchayats and called for expanding the initiative to the block level. He also emphasized connecting UP expatriates with the Matribhumi Yojana, encouraging them to fund local projects named after their ancestors and to honour them in state-level programmes to inspire others.
Focusing on village development, the CM proposed the creation of integrated campuses in gram panchayats, combining schools, Utsav Bhavans, sports grounds, gyms, parks, and model shops. Public representatives were urged to participate in land selection for these campuses.
To improve awareness of government schemes and verify beneficiaries, the CM instructed that open chaupals be organized in every gram panchayat.
