Uttarakhand Closes Schools in Bageshwar Amid Heavy Rain Alert

Classes up to 12 suspended as administration responds to IMD orange warning

DEHRADUN, Aug 10: Schools up to Class 12 in Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar district will remain closed on Monday following an orange alert for heavy rainfall issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The district administration announced the holiday as a precautionary measure, taking into account the possibility of intense rain and associated risks in vulnerable areas.

The decision applies to educational institutions catering to students up to the senior secondary level. Authorities have prioritised student safety amid concerns over difficult travel conditions and possible disruption caused by heavy precipitation.

The weather warning comes during the monsoon season, when several parts of Uttarakhand remain vulnerable to landslides, road blockages and flash-flood-like situations.

Local authorities are expected to continue monitoring weather conditions and take further measures if the situation deteriorates.

The temporary closure provides students and staff relief from travelling during potentially hazardous conditions while allowing district officials to assess the situation before normal academic activities resume.
