SRINAGAR, Apr 24: Reaffirming the collective conscience of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam, stating that such inhuman acts are alien to the values, culture, and identity of Kashmir.
Speaking at a press conference, KCCI president Javed Ahmad Tenga said the people of the valley are deeply committed to preserving their centuries-old traditions of warmth, hospitality, and communal harmony, and will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of every guest who visits the region.
“The people of Kashmir have denounced this heinous act of violence in the strongest terms. It has no place in our society or our cultural fabric. Kashmir has always stood for peace and hospitality, and we shall not allow this legacy to be tarnished by such senseless brutality,” Tenga said.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kashmir for voluntarily observing a complete shutdown on Wednesday, in a peaceful show of protest and solidarity with the victims of the attack. “This shutdown was not just an act of protest — it was a powerful and unified message from the entire valley. It conveyed that we, as a people and as a business community, stand united against terrorism, bloodshed, and the killing of innocents in any form,” he added.
Tenga said that while the shutdown was symbolic, the KCCI believes in taking the message beyond symbolic gestures. “For us at the KCCI, human lives are far more valuable than commercial interests. Our priority remains the protection of life, dignity, and peace for every individual in the valley.”
Extending condolences to the bereaved families, he said, “We share in their grief and stand with them in this tragic hour. Their loss is our collective loss.”
He also assured tourists and visitors that the valley’s people remain steadfast in their commitment to ensuring their safety and comfort. “Kashmiris have always welcomed guests with open arms, and this unfortunate incident does not define who we are. Our traditions of hospitality will remain intact, stronger than ever,” Tenga said.
The KCCI reiterated its appeal for peace and called for collective efforts across communities to reject the forces that seek to destabilize the region through acts of violence.
