Mumbai, Oct 25 : Former Miss Universe India and supermodel Vartika Singh is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Haq, a gripping courtroom thriller starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam. Directed by Suparn Varma, known for The Family Man and Rana Naidu, the film is produced by Junglee Pictures in collaboration with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios.
In Haq, Vartika portrays a complex, emotionally intense woman described by Varma as “controlled fire.” To prepare for the role, she trained with dialect coaches and participated in improvisation workshops, delving deep into the character’s silences and the “quiet machinery of guilt.”
Set amid a controversial legal battle, the film pits Emraan and Yami against each other in a case that unexpectedly intersects with Singh’s character, adding layers of tension and intrigue.
Haq is a fictionalized retelling inspired by Jigna Vora’s book Bano: Bharat ki Beti, reflecting the events surrounding the landmark Shah Bano case a debate that continues to resonate today. Vora expressed confidence in the cast, stating that the teaser has already generated strong impact and praising the actors’ performances.
Speaking on the inspiration, Vora said, “Shah Bano was an incredibly strong woman who fought for her rights in her sixties, first in the Madhya Pradesh High Court and later in the Supreme Court. I aimed to capture her emotional turmoil and resilience through this story.”
Backed by Junglee Pictures, Haq is scheduled for release on November 7, promising an intense courtroom drama and a striking debut for Vartika Singh.
