THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 23: Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan is scheduled to meet senior Congress leaders in New Delhi on Saturday during his first official visit to the national capital after assuming office.
According to sources, Satheesan is expected to hold discussions with Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during his stay in Delhi.
Officials indicated that efforts were also being made to secure an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, although no confirmation had been received at the time of reporting.
“Attempts are being made to arrange a meeting with the prime minister, but there has been no official confirmation so far,” a senior official from the Chief Minister’s Office said.
Satheesan departed from Thiruvananthapuram on Friday night and is expected to stay at Kerala House during his brief visit. Sources said no formal public programmes have been scheduled in the capital, and the chief minister is likely to return to Kochi later on Saturday.
The visit comes after delays caused by extended discussions over cabinet formation and portfolio distribution in Kerala. Satheesan had initially planned to meet the Congress high command soon after taking oath as chief minister, but internal administrative processes postponed the trip.
Party insiders said the meetings are expected to focus on Kerala’s development priorities, governance roadmap and future political strategies for the state government.
