Vijay Demands Future CBI Probe into Karur Stampede in Tamil Nadu

TVK chief requests inquiry proceedings within Tamil Nadu citing election commitments; reiterates cooperation with probe

Chennai, Mar 17: Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has urged the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct future questioning in Chennai or elsewhere within the state in connection with the Karur stampede case.

In a letter dated March 14, addressed to the investigating agency and marked to Justice Ajay Rastogi, Vijay cited his ongoing Assembly election engagements as a reason for seeking a change in venue. He had requested a window of 10–15 days for appearance and asked that the inquiry be scheduled within Tamil Nadu due to prior commitments.

Despite the appeal, the actor-politician was asked to appear in New Delhi on March 15, where he underwent over seven hours of questioning during the third round of the probe. He was accompanied by party members Aadhav Arjuna and C T R Nirmal Kumar.

Sources within the party said Vijay reaffirmed his willingness to cooperate fully with investigators, describing himself as a law-abiding citizen. He also conveyed that he and his supporters were among those affected by the Karur tragedy, which resulted in significant loss of life and injuries, causing deep distress.

The investigation into the incident, which occurred in September 2025, is being monitored under the directions of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the developments come ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.
