PM Modi honors 1971 War heroes on Vijay Diwas

NEW DELHI, Dec 16: On the occasion of Vijay Diwas 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the bravery and sacrifice of India’s armed forces who secured victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War.

“On Vijay Diwas, we remember the courageous soldiers whose unwavering resolve and selfless service ensured India’s historic triumph in 1971. Their heroism continues to inspire generations of Indians,” Modi said.

Vijay Diwas is observed annually on December 16 to honor the armed forces who played a pivotal role in India’s decisive victory, which led to the surrender of approximately 93,000 Pakistani soldiers under General A.A. Khan Niazi  one of the largest surrenders since World War II.

The day serves as a tribute to the valor, dedication, and unmatched spirit of Indian soldiers, celebrating their contribution to the nation’s security and pride.
