Weather Forecast: Mainly Dry Conditions Expected in Jammu and Kashmir

17-06-2023 : The meteorological department in Jammu and Kashmir has announced a mainly dry weather forecast starting from June 18. However, despite the dry conditions, there has been an increase in minimum temperatures across most places in the region.

In the summer capital of Srinagar, the minimum temperature rose to 16.0°C, compared to 15.6°C on the previous night. This reading was 1.2°C above the normal range for this time of year. Similarly, Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 13.4°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s reading of 14.0°C, and 0.1°C above the normal range.

The famous tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district witnessed a low temperature of 9.4°C, showing an increase of 0.9°C from the previous night and deviating slightly from the normal range. In Kupwara town in north Kashmir, the mercury settled at 12.2°C, which was 1.0°C below the normal range for the area.

Kokernag, on the other hand, recorded a minimum temperature of 13.1°C, which remained within the normal range. Meanwhile, Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, experienced a low temperature of 8.8°C, showing a decrease of 0.5°C from the previous night and falling below the normal range.

In Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum temperature was 25.9°C, surpassing the normal range by 0.4°C.

Other regions also reported their respective temperatures. Banihal recorded a low temperature of 14.3°C, slightly above normal by 0.1°C. Batote registered 16.2°C, exceeding the normal range by 0.2°C. Katra witnessed a low temperature of 22.0°C, deviating from the normal range by 0.1°C. Bhaderwah recorded 14.0°C, which was above normal by 0.3°C. In Ladakh, Leh reported a low temperature of 7.9°C, while Kargil recorded 11.7°C.

The meteorological department has also predicted isolated light rains in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours, followed by mainly dry weather until June 23. These weather updates provide valuable information to the public and various sectors, allowing them to plan their activities accordingly.
