Jammu, December 1: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, today visited the Ladakhi Girls Hostel at Muthi, Jammu, where he interacted with the students and took first-hand stock of the issues and challenges being faced by them. The visit was part of his ongoing outreach programme to assess public facilities catering to students from Ladakh studying outside the Union Territory.

During his interaction, the officials concerned and students apprised the Lieutenant Governor about matters related to hostel infrastructure, availability of essential amenities, security, and academic support systems. They also highlighted the need for better recreational spaces, upgraded sanitation facilities, improved heating systems, and enhanced maintenance of the building.

After taking a detailed round of the premises and reviewing the facilities, the Lieutenant Governor directed the officials accompanying him to immediately prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for comprehensive upgradation of the hostel. He instructed that the DPR must focus on structural repairs, modernization of rooms, installation of efficient heating solutions, expansion of common areas, safety measures, and creation of an environment conducive to academic excellence.

Shri Kavinder Gupta further assured that the UT Administration is fully committed to ensuring comfortable and safe accommodation for Ladakhi students studying in different parts of the country. He emphasised that the welfare of youth remains a top priority and all necessary steps will be taken to address their concerns in a time-bound manner. “The administration stands committed to improving educational support infrastructure for our students. Your well-being and academic growth are central to Ladakh’s future,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner Kargil apprised the Lieutenant Governor about the facilities being provided to the students residing in the hostel. The students also shared their suggestions and expectations, which the LG assured would be duly incorporated into the improvement plan.

The Lieutenant Governor directed the concerned departments to examine the requirements of the hostel and propose suitable interventions to enhance the residential and academic environment. He reiterated that both hostels will receive focused administrative attention to ensure that students from Ladakh feel supported, safe, and encouraged during their academic journey away from home.
