GENEVA, May 19: The World Health Organization has raised concern over a sharp increase in dengue infections across several Asian countries ahead of the monsoon season.
Health officials reported rising case numbers in countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and India.
The WHO urged governments to intensify mosquito-control campaigns, improve sanitation systems and strengthen public awareness programmes to reduce transmission risks.
Medical experts warned that changing weather patterns, urban crowding and stagnant water accumulation are contributing to the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
Hospitals in several affected countries have reported increased admissions of patients suffering from high fever, dehydration and dengue-related complications.
Public health authorities advised citizens to use mosquito repellents, wear protective clothing and avoid stagnant water near residential areas.
