WHO Warns of Rising Heatwave Health Risks Across Multiple Continents

Medical experts urge countries to strengthen emergency response systems during extreme temperatures

GENEVA, May 22: The World Health Organization has warned that rising global temperatures and recurring heatwaves are posing serious health risks across multiple regions worldwide.

Health officials said prolonged heat exposure is increasing cases of dehydration, respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular complications and heatstroke, particularly among elderly populations, children and outdoor workers.

Countries across Europe, Asia and parts of North America have reported unusually high temperatures during the early summer period, prompting authorities to issue public health advisories and open emergency cooling centres.

The WHO urged governments to strengthen healthcare preparedness, improve early warning systems and develop long-term climate adaptation strategies to reduce heat related deaths.

Climate scientists continue to warn that global warming is intensifying extreme weather patterns, increasing the frequency and severity of heatwaves worldwide.
