World Bee Day Celebrated in District Reasi

REASI, MAY 20: World Bee Day was celebrated in Reasi District with the theme “Bee engaged in pollinator- friendly agriculture production” to raise awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators for the environment, agriculture, and human well-being.

Farmers were educated about pollinators’ crucial role towards the sustainable development of the planet Earth and to raise awareness about the threat these face, by chief Agriculture officer, Harbans Singh and District Agriculture Officer, Rajesh Verma.

The World Bee Day promotes efforts to protect and conserve bees and highlights their importance. The campaign aims to educate people about pollinators and the challenges they face, such as habitat loss, climate change, pesticide use, and disease.

As many as 40 farmers are engaged in beekeeping activities by rearing Apis mellifera species in District and approximately 300 farmers are also rearing apis Cerana species in Chassana, Gulabgarh, Mahore   and Thuroo blocks.

The Programme was attended by Sub Divisional Agriculture officer,   Vinod Khajuria, Vikas Sharma, AEO Reasi and incharge Apiculture development Assistant Sarh/Katra.
