Youth Congress Stages Peaceful March Demanding Restoration of Statehood to Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu, July 26, 2025: In a strong assertion of democratic rights and regional aspirations, the Youth Congress on Saturday organized a peaceful and vibrant march from Purani Mandi to Shaheedi Chowk, demanding the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir. The march saw enthusiastic participation from youth activists, students, and concerned citizens, all united in their demand for dignity, democracy, and regional empowerment.

Leading the march were prominent Youth Congress leaders including Divyansh Jamwal (Vice President), Rahul Tandon (General Secretary), Sunny Parihar, and Raghav Khajuria (State Secretary). They addressed the gathering and underlined the growing discontent among the youth and general public over the prolonged delay in restoring Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood.

Participants carried placards bearing messages like “Hamaari Riyasat Hamaara Haq” and “Restore Statehood”, while the beating of traditional Duff drums created an electrifying atmosphere, drawing public attention throughout the route.

Speaking at the culmination of the march at Shaheedi Chowk, Youth Congress Vice President Divyansh Jamwal remarked, “The abrogation of statehood has gravely undermined the democratic framework of Jammu and Kashmir. We demand the return of our legislative powers, our identity, and our right to self-govern.”

Rahul Tandon and Sunny Parihar echoed the sentiment, stating, “Union Territory status has centralized authority, creating a gap between the administration and the people. The youth are suffering due to the lack of job opportunities, uncertain land rights, and stalled economic growth. Full statehood is essential for genuine development and participatory governance.”

State Secretary Raghav Khajuria emphasized the tangible benefits of restoring statehood, which include:

    • Restoration of legislative powers to elected representatives

    • Localized control over employment and development policies

    • Increased transparency and accountability in governance

    • Protection of land and job rights for the native population

He also outlined the drawbacks of continuing as a Union Territory:

    • Diminished political representation and public voice

    • Excessive bureaucratic control leading to alienation

    • Sluggish development and inadequate region-specific policies

The march concluded peacefully at Shaheedi Chowk, with youth leaders vowing to persist in their democratic struggle until the promise of full statehood is fulfilled.

The Youth Congress appealed to the central government to honor its commitments and act in the best interest of the people of Jammu & Kashmir by restoring statehood without further delay.
