DNA Samples Collected from Suspect’s Mother as Probe Into Red Fort Blast Intensifies
Srinagar, Nov 11: The mother of the man suspected to be driving the car involved in Monday’s deadly blast near the Red Fort was called for a DNA test on Tuesday in Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Police officials confirmed that DNA samples were collected from the woman to help match with the car debris and other evidence recovered from the blast site. The Hyundai i20 used in the attack exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station parking area, killing at least 12 people.
The suspected driver, identified as Dr. Umar Nabi, hails from Koil village in Pulwama. He is alleged to have been behind the wheel during the incident. Two of his brothers accompanied their mother to the hospital for the DNA procedure.
Authorities also detained three individuals linked to the sale and purchase of the car to assist in the ongoing investigation. The probe into the Red Fort blast continues as officials work to piece together the chain of events leading up to the attack.
