Hathras Accident: 4 Dead, 18 Injured in Collision Between Bus and Milk Tanker
Accident on Agra–Aligarh Highway occurs as tanker swerves to avoid cyclist, emergency services rush victims to hospitals.
Hathras, Nov 7: A roadways bus collided head-on with a milk tanker on the Agra–Aligarh National Highway near Samamai village in Hathras district on Friday afternoon, leaving four dead and at least 18 injured.
According to police, the Hathras depot bus was returning from Aligarh to Hathras when the milk tanker, traveling in the opposite direction, swerved to avoid hitting a cyclist. In the attempt to save the cyclist, the tanker crashed into the oncoming bus, causing it to overturn.
The impact was so severe that the tanker also ran over a fruit vendor selling guavas on the roadside. Eyewitnesses captured videos showing the vendor injured as bystanders tried to assist him.
Emergency teams arrived promptly. Police had to break open bus windows to rescue trapped passengers, while a green corridor was established to quickly transfer the injured to hospitals. A total of 21 passengers were taken to nearby medical facilities, with three critically injured victims referred to Aligarh Medical College for advanced care.
District Magistrate Atul Vats and Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha visited the district hospital to oversee rescue operations. “Eyewitnesses reported that both vehicles tried to avoid a motorcycle. All injured have been admitted to hospitals and are receiving proper treatment,” said DM Vats.
The Sadar Community Health Centre initially received 16 patients, six of whom were later referred to higher medical centers due to critical injuries. The hospital brought in additional staff and pharmacists to manage the emergency.
Traffic on the busy Agra–Aligarh Highway was halted for nearly an hour until cranes and JCB machines cleared the wreckage.
The deceased include Kuldeep (11) of Tilothi, Sasni; Arjun (32), bus conductor from Bagwala, Etah; Maharaj Singh (45) of Iglas Adda, Hathras; and Sonu (52) of Harinagar, Sasni. Authorities have sent the bodies for post mortem and assured support to the victims’ families.
The district administration and police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
