Himachal CM Announces ₹1 Crore Reward for Cricketer Renuka Thakur’s Stellar Performance

Shimla, Nov 4 — Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a cash reward of ₹1 crore for international cricketer Renuka Thakur, a native of Rohru in Shimla district, for her stellar contribution to India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup victory.
The Chief Minister personally spoke with Renuka Thakur to congratulate her and the entire Indian squad for their historic win against South Africa in the final match held in Mumbai on Sunday evening.
Sukhu said that the nation was proud of the team’s achievement, which marked a new chapter in Indian women’s cricket. “I watched both the semi final and final matches and was deeply moved by the determination and teamwork displayed by our players,” he said.
Praising Renuka’s consistent performance and commitment, Sukhu added that her success has brought immense pride to Himachal Pradesh and will motivate young athletes especially girls to pursue sports with passion and dedication.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting sports by improving infrastructure, offering financial incentives, and providing advanced training opportunities for emerging talent.
