Prabhas’ ‘Baahubali’ and Harshavardhan Rane’s ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ Tie as Top-Grossing Re-Releases in India
Re-releases of iconic films give them a second life, with ‘Baahubali’ set to claim the top spot soon
Mumbai, Nov 14 : The Indian box office has traditionally been driven by new releases, but in recent years, film re-releases have gained popularity, giving classics a renewed run in theatres. Harshvardhan Rane’s ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ is a prime example it initially earned ₹9 crore, but upon re-release, it collected ₹33.18 crore, becoming one of the highest-grossing re-release films in India.
On its 10th anniversary, producer Shobu Yarlagadda and director SS Rajamouli brought ‘Baahubali’ back to theatres as ‘Baahubali The Epic’, a re-cut version of the original films. Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj, and Nassar, the new edition was met with immense fanfare. The film opened strongly but gradually slowed down after the initial weekend. Nevertheless, its total collection has now reached ₹33.18 crore, tying it with ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’.
