BJP’s Sat Paul Sharma represents J&K; AAP’s Rajinder Gupta represents Punjab in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Nov 6: Newly elected Rajya Sabha members Rajinder Gupta and Sat Paul Sharma were sworn in by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday at Parliament House. Gupta, an Aam Aadmi Party member from Punjab, took the oath in Punjabi. Sharma, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Jammu and Kashmir, took the oath in Hindi.

Rajinder Gupta, an industrialist nominated by AAP which governs Punjab, joins the Upper House with a background in enterprise and public affairs. His induction is expected to strengthen AAP’s presence in Parliament on issues relating to state development and industry.

Sat Paul Sharma serves as president of the BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit. A chartered accountant by profession, he has held cabinet rank in the former J&K government and was elected MLA from Jammu West in 2014 with a winning margin of 51,000 votes, which was the largest in that election. His entry into the Rajya Sabha gives the party an experienced voice on fiscal policy, governance, and the Union Territory’s development priorities.

The ceremony was attended by BJP President J. P. Nadda, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, and BJP’s J&K in-charge Tarun Chugh. Family members of both MPs were also present, marking a personal milestone alongside the formal proceedings.

With their swearing-in, both parties gain additional parliamentary heft. Gupta is expected to focus on federal support for Punjab’s economic and infrastructural needs, while Sharma is likely to raise matters concerning public finance, connectivity, and welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.
