Social Welfare Department Reintroduces Elderline Helpline for Senior Citizens Across J&K
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 1: In a significant move to support the elderly population, the Department of Social Welfare, Jammu & Kashmir, has restarted the Elderline Helpline (14567) across the Union Territory. The helpline, operational daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, aims to provide critical assistance, guidance, and emotional support to senior citizens facing various challenges.
The initiative ensures a dedicated team of trained counselors is available to address concerns related to legal issues, emotional distress, and access to government welfare schemes. By offering a structured support system, the helpline seeks to empower senior citizens and enhance their overall well-being.
Speaking about the relaunch, Director, Social Welfare Department Jammu, Rupesh Kumar, emphasized the department’s commitment to elderly welfare. “The reinstatement of Elderline 14567 underscores our dedication to ensuring a dignified life for our senior citizens. Many elderly individuals struggle with loneliness, legal hurdles, and limited access to welfare benefits. This helpline will serve as a crucial lifeline, connecting them to necessary resources and assistance,” he said.
For many elderly individuals, the helpline has already made a meaningful impact. One senior citizen who recently used the service expressed gratitude, stating, “Old age comes with its own set of challenges, from emotional isolation to financial worries. Knowing that there is a dedicated helpline offering support and guidance gives us a sense of security and reassurance.”
The Social Welfare Department has urged elderly individuals and their families across Jammu & Kashmir to make full use of this free and confidential service.
