New Delhi, June 08 : The Centre has intensified efforts to modernise India’s border management architecture, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighting the government’s vision of creating an impregnable security grid powered by technology.
Addressing security personnel during a border review programme, Shah stressed that advanced surveillance systems, drones, sensors and digital monitoring platforms will form the backbone of India’s future border infrastructure. The initiative aims to improve monitoring, intelligence sharing and response capabilities across sensitive frontier regions.
A major component of the strategy is the introduction of a digital Land Port Management System designed to streamline passenger and cargo movement through land checkpoints. Officials say the platform will enhance transparency, reduce delays and improve coordination among multiple agencies operating at border crossings.
The government believes technology driven border management will help address challenges such as illegal infiltration, smuggling and cross-border crime. The project is also expected to improve trade facilitation and support economic activity in border regions.
Security experts note that India’s extensive international boundaries require a combination of physical infrastructure and smart surveillance technologies. The latest measures reflect a broader shift toward integrated border management systems already used by several advanced economies.
The initiative gains significance amid growing regional security concerns and increased emphasis on national security. Officials say the modernisation programme will continue in phases over the coming years, transforming border management through automation and real-time monitoring capabilities.
