Jeff Daniels Set to Star in ‘The Reception’

The Hollywood veteran will star in Trudie Styler’s film about a lavish wedding reception that descends into chaos after the bride and groom fail to appear.

LOS ANGELES, Sept 14: Hollywood veteran Jeff Daniels has joined the cast of The Reception, a film centred on a chaotic Scottish wedding directed by filmmaker Trudie Styler.

Daniels, who made his breakthrough with the 1983 Oscar-winning drama Terms of Endearment, has built a distinguished career across film, television and theatre. He is also widely recognised for his performances in The Purple Rose of Cairo, The Squid and the Whale and Pleasantville, among other projects.

The actor is a recipient of Primetime Emmy Awards and has earned nominations for several major honours, including the Tony, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards.

The Reception is being directed by Styler, who is known for projects including Moon, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Freak Show. Styler is also producing the film alongside Celine Rattray under their Maven Screen Media banner. Piers Tempest is also attached as a producer through Tempo Productions, according to entertainment outlet Deadline.

Set at a grand Scottish estate, the story follows a wedding celebration that goes ahead despite the unexpected absence of both the bride and groom. Felix has left Victoria at the altar, forcing their parents, relatives and friends to deal with the fallout while attempting to maintain the appearance of a successful celebration.

As the reception unfolds, efforts to preserve appearances gradually give way to a series of mishaps and comic situations. The gathering brings together in-laws, staff and guests, who are forced to confront their own relationships while dealing with the consequences of the abandoned wedding.

Daniels most recently appeared in The Brink of War, directed by Michael Russell Gunn. The film explores the tense negotiations between US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev during the 1986 Reykjavik Summit.

In the historical drama, Daniels portrayed Reagan, adding another prominent political figure to his varied screen career.
