Anantnag Police Tighten Anti-Narcotics Drive, Two Drug Peddlers Arrested

Three FIRs registered as police launch multiple raids and naka checks in Sangam and Aishmuqam areas

Anantnag, May 19: Continuing its aggressive campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Anantnag Police on Monday carried out a series of anti-narcotics operations across Sangam and Aishmuqam areas, leading to the registration of three FIRs and the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers involved in illegal narcotics activities.

According to police officials, the first operation was conducted by a team from Police Post Sangam following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of contraband substances in the area. During a raid at the residence of Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Late Abdul Rehman Shah, a resident of Ikhrajpora Marhama, police recovered nearly 3.340 kilograms of charas powder-like substance from the house.

Officials said the accused was absconding during the raid and could not be arrested on the spot. A manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend him. In this regard, FIR No. 131/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the concerned police station, and further investigation is underway.

In another anti-drug operation, a naka checking party from Police Station Aishmuqam intercepted a suspicious individual at Magrey Mohalla while he was travelling from Ainoo towards Aishmuqam. Police said the suspect attempted to flee after noticing the naka team but was successfully apprehended by the officers on duty.

During his personal search, police recovered approximately 17 grams of heroin-like substance concealed inside an orange-coloured polythene bag in his possession. The accused was identified as Mudasir Ahmad Gilkar alias Uzain, son of Nisar Ahmad Gilkar, a resident of Magrey Mohalla Aishmuqam.

Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and initiated further investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, in a separate naka checking operation at Rangkadal Aishmuqam, another suspect travelling from Jamooh towards Aishmuqam tried to evade the police checking party after spotting the naka point. The suspect was chased and detained by police personnel.

Upon search, officers recovered nearly 13 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession. During preliminary questioning, the accused identified himself as Mehraj-u-Din Bala alias Pintu Bala, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bala, a resident of Peer Mohalla Aishmuqam.

Police said another case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain possible links with larger drug networks operating in the district.

Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics trafficking and drug abuse. Officials urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share any information related to drug peddling or illegal narcotics activities to help eradicate the menace from society.
