Bangladesh Script Historic Nine-Wicket Test Win Over Australia

DARWIN, Aug 16: Bangladesh produced one of the biggest upsets in recent Test cricket history, defeating Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to register their first ever Test victory on Australian soil.

The visitors completed the chase of 57 runs with ease after Australia were dismissed for 284 in their second innings. Bangladesh lost only one wicket while reaching the target, sealing a memorable result against the two time World Test Championship winners.

The victory was built on a disciplined bowling display. Hasan Mahmud emerged as Bangladesh’s standout performer, claiming nine wickets across the match, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz also played a crucial role with his five wicket haul in Australia’s second innings.

Australia had struggled to establish control throughout the contest. Although Cameron Green produced a determined century in the second innings, his effort could not prevent Bangladesh from taking a commanding position.

The result was particularly significant given Bangladesh’s limited success in Test cricket against Australia. The Tigers had entered the contest as underdogs but maintained their composure and capitalised on Australia’s batting failures.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto praised his team’s discipline and determination after the landmark result. The win has also strengthened the visitors’ confidence ahead of the next Test in Mackay.

Australia captain Pat Cummins acknowledged that Bangladesh had outplayed his side across the match, while the defeat raised questions about Australia’s performance at the start of their lengthy Test schedule.

The victory gives Bangladesh renewed belief as they target a historic series triumph against Australia.
