Big Transformation in Jammu and Kashmir: A Land of Freedom and Progress Four Years After Article 370 Abrogation, Asserts LG Sinha

06-08-2023 : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, on Sunday, proudly declared a momentous shift in the region, with the era of separatist and terror organizations disrupting normalcy relegated to the pages of history. He emphasized that development and peace now resonate throughout the valley, four years after the abrogation of Article 370. In an interaction with journalists, Sinha asserted that the Election Commission will decide on holding assembly polls in the Union territory after the completion of the delimitation exercise and revision of electoral rolls, highlighting the government’s commitment to democratic processes.

The LG refuted claims of any return to the old era, assuring that his administration has set a new trajectory for the region. With over 32,000 elected representatives actively participating in the decision-making process, the trust in developmental works among taxpayers has risen significantly. Sinha recalled Home Minister Amit Shah’s assurance in Parliament that assembly elections would follow the delimitation process, and statehood for Jammu and Kashmir would be reinstated at the appropriate time.

Addressing concerns about targeted killings, Sinha emphasized the overall decline in terror attacks. He acknowledged that the expectations under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership are for no further acts of terror. While acknowledging that sporadic incidents may occur, the government is resolute in creating an atmosphere of safety and security.

Sinha took a dig at previous non-BJP governments, stating that they sought temporary peace, whereas the current dispensation aims to dismantle the entire ecosystem supporting terrorism. He highlighted the recent allowance of the Ashura procession during Muharram after 34 years as a testament to the changing scenario in the region. Now, people are free to observe religious processions as long as they maintain the country’s unity and integrity.

The abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 marked a significant change in the region, with a focus on peace, development, and empowerment of the common man. The era of street violence and frequent strife has given way to a new chapter of progress and freedom, as people enjoy their lives without any external diktats. Sinha emphasized that the region has witnessed a remarkable transformation, becoming a leader in e-governance and implementing a plethora of development initiatives.

The LG proudly stated that the region’s budget has seen a significant increase, with substantial investments pouring in. Private investment has surged, with projects worth tens of thousands of crores in progress, promising employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people. The administration has taken proactive measures to ensure efficient service delivery, with more than 675 services available online and an auto-escalation process to address any delays.

In sum, Jammu and Kashmir have undergone a remarkable transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with development, progress, and freedom taking center stage. The LG’s administration has shown unparalleled dedication to the welfare of the people, fostering an atmosphere of prosperity and growth for the region.
