Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla cornered the BJP government over various issues. He slammed the BJP government for using public money for polishing their own image through massive advertisements. The fact is that the BJP government has failed to deliver to the people on all fronts and would be wiped out of J&K whenever assembly elections take place here. He said BJP had assured to protect the land and jobs of the local Youth but has betrayed the huge mandate and opened up sale of land and jobs to outsiders while in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, no outsiders can purchase land. He said Congress will create awareness among the general public about the failures of the government and the drawbacks of not having the status of being a state. He said that Jammu has witnessed huge setbacks due to the revocation of statehood by the BJP Government including the seizing of jobs, land, and the suppression of political and civil rights. The economy has also suffered immensely due to the government’s irrational policies and decisions. Therefore, it is high time that the Centre keeps its promise of giving back statehood so that people can exercise their political rights by choosing a democratic government. The Centre should accept the demand for restoration of statehood to J-K in the interest of the Constitution and democracy, he stated.
Launching a scathing attack on the government, Bhalla further added that without a dedicated government elected by the people Jammu and its people are being neglected and overlooked. From national issues like skyrocketing fuel and food prices and the pandemic that went out of control to regional issues specific to Jammu including economic exploitation in the name of toll plazas, taxes and ending of Darbar move, the people have had to deal with a lot. There is zero focus on development, the Infrastructure is dying out, and people are being denied basic civic amenities like power and water. So, there is an urgent need for decentralisation of power so that a leadership that is more privy to the issues of the region can address them and resolve them. He added that the Congress party will keep fighting for statehood and for the best interests of the people of J&K until it is done.
Addressing the meeting, Bhalla said BJP led Government failed to protect the jobs and lands of the locals. He said many BJP leaders gave assurances to enact laws for protecting jobs and lands of the locals from J&K, but they have totally failed to protect the same. The PCC leader said that unemployment in J&K has reached an alarming situation and this Government has failed to protect the jobs of the local educated youth. He cautioned the present administration to take note of the situation as frustration is on rising among the educated youth. He urged the Government to generate more employment opportunities for the locals in J&K. Bhalla said Congress always stood by the people of J&K but BJP failed to address the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying that words alone won’t suffice to improve the situation on the ground.
Bhalla said Govt. has failed to live up to the spirit of accommodation and reconciliation towards the realization of the legitimate political aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Today democracy in J&K is facing onslaughts from no other than the ruling party itself. Ideally, the political and ideological difference should have been put aside while dealing with a sensitive region like that of ours. The major stress of the government should have been to assuage the miseries of our unemployed youth who regrettably have grown up in conflict. The need of the hour called for the adoption of a magnanimous approach to give our youth a new hope and rescue them to safe shores, but nothing substantial is being done by the incumbent central and LG government to achieve that end,” he said.“Compelling narratives of progress, modernity and development justifying its unconstitutional actions in J&k have fallen flat and that the aggressive policies of ruling BJP towards the region have hurt its development path and its economy,” he said adding that ruling BJP was on a mission to disenfranchise people of J&K with its selective policies and a coterie of federally appointed officers, bereft of democratic bearings, calling the shots.
Bhalla further observed that the so-called Naya Kashmir of BJP, besides being low on the democratic mooring is also opposite to the original idea of Naya Kashmir. The downpour of fresh investments, job extravaganza, and infrastructure amplification is nowhere visible on the ground. Far from delivering on much-touted development promises, the people of J&K are continuously being denied their rights, having a popular government in place is one of them,” he added. The ruling BJP’s record in J&K reveals a mounting set of failures on every front ranging from employment generation, investment, infrastructure augmentation. The situation of artisans, hoteliers, marginal traders, and agriculturalists is also very disappointing; the entire lot is at the brink of starvation,” he said.
JKPCC Senior Vice President Mula Ram in his address said that Congress has been on the forefront to oppose the anti-people policies being imposed on the people through back door by the bureaucrats’ Govt., as there is no elected Govt. in J&K for three and half years, now the people of different sections are being forced to swallow the bitter pills, as they have no representation or forum to raise their voice against the anti-people policies of the BJP through the bureaucratic system. Having failed to give employment to the highest percentage of educated unemployed youth, the Centre Govt. and UT administration is beating about bushes and finding faults in the past Govts., he added.
Mulla Ram further said that Congress is the only option left before the people of Jammu and Kashmir as people have bitter experience of Double Engine Govt. of BJP’. He alleged that BJP betrayed the huge mandate of the people of Jammu by dividing and downgrading the Princely historical State of Jammu and Kashmir to two Unions Territories. “People of Jammu and Kashmir are fed up with the hollow slogans and Jumla’ politics of BJP. In this situation, BJP’s claimed target of 50 is also a big Jumla and people will give their full support to the Congress which can feel the pulse of the people and can fulfil the genuine urges and aspirations of the people especially youth,” he said. The honour of the people of Jammu has been compromised and downgraded by the leaders who claimed to be the champion of their cause in the region. BJP climbed the political ladder raising voice against discrimination with the people of this region. They ended up doing some disparity with the people who voted them to power to rule the country,” said Mulla Ram. He reiterated Congress will fight for the cause of Jammuities and also to restore lost honour of J&K.
District Jammu Rural President Hari Singh Chib speaking on the occasion, Let them act wherever they believe wrong has been done and face the people while reminding BJP’s promise to regularize their services with all daily wagers casual, adhoc, contractual and other temporary employees with different nomenclatures and today dub them as sins of past Govts. They enticed them with false and fake Jumlas and hope to seek votes and come to power and later betrayed them for 7 years. Chib said that people of all sections have turned against BJP, that is why elections are being delayed fear of loosing elections. Congress party stands for change and people will throw out BJP in next assembly elections, he claimed and said that party will go to the people and highlight negative policies of govt. making life of people miserable in J&K.
