NEW DELHI, Sep 12: BRICS leaders on Saturday visited the Bharat Innovates Exposition at Bharat Mandapam, where 37 emerging technologies from India’s higher education and research ecosystem were showcased as part of efforts to strengthen international collaboration in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Held on September 11 and 12 alongside the BRICS Summit, the exposition highlighted technologies developed by Indian institutions and deep-tech start-ups across sectors with potential applications in global markets.
Among the featured projects were an advanced floating solar photovoltaic platform designed for complex water bodies, a full-stack marine robotic system for inspecting critical infrastructure, a rare earth-free electric powertrain and artificial intelligence-based healthcare solutions.
The healthcare technologies on display included an AI-enabled cervical cancer screening system capable of providing risk assessment in under a minute and an AI-powered foetal monitoring platform.
The exhibition was organised by the Ministry of Education in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs. It is part of the government’s broader effort to connect innovations emerging from Indian universities, research institutions and start-ups with international investors, companies and research organisations.
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi said the initiative was aimed at taking innovations developed within India’s higher education and research ecosystem to international audiences.
The exposition was organised alongside the BRICS Business Forum, giving participating innovators an opportunity to interact with chief executives, investors, business leaders and industry representatives from BRICS member countries.
The interactions are expected to support business-to-business partnerships, technology collaborations, investment opportunities, commercial linkages and access to international markets.
Bharat Innovates is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Education that seeks to serve as a global accelerator for innovations emerging from India’s higher education ecosystem. It brings together start-ups, higher education institutions, laboratories and research parks with global corporations, investors, universities, incubators, governments and other stakeholders.
The Bharat Innovates programme also seeks to create sustained international partnerships around promising technologies and provide innovators with opportunities to scale their solutions beyond India.
The BRICS Bharat Innovates Exposition at Bharat Mandapam is the second major showcase of India’s deep-tech start-up ecosystem under the initiative this year. The first edition was held in Nice, France, from June 14 to 16.
