Buddha Purnima observed at Ambedkar Chowk; pledge taken to uphold Liberty, Equality, Fraternity

Jammu, 01-05-2026: Buddha Purnima is celebrated as the “Thrice Blessed Day” because it marks three significant events in the life of Gautama Buddha—his birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana—all believed to have occurred on the same full moon day of the Vaishakha month. This sacred day is observed globally as Buddha Purnima.

Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini, Nepal. He attained supreme enlightenment and became the Buddha under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, India. He attained Mahaparinirvana in Kushinagar, India, all on the Vaishakha Purnima.

Lord Buddha’s core message remains timeless: “Every human being is equal. No one is high or low. Where there is Dharma, there is no violence, and where there is violence, there is no Dharma. The Buddha is a path—every human being is equal!

Today, the All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC & Minority Organizations, J&K, observed Buddha Purnima at Ambedkar Chowk, Jammu. Members gathered around the statue of Lord Buddha, lit candles, and paid floral tributes. A pledge was taken to follow his message and work on his ideology to treat all human beings as equal.

On the occasion, Sh. R K Kalsotra, State President of the Confederation, in his message said, “On the soil of India—the land of the Buddha—upholding the Constitution, we place our faith in liberty, equality, and fraternity. Let us resolve to build a society free from discrimination, hatred, and violence, as shown by Tathagat Buddha and Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.”
