CBI Arrests Section Officer of APD Jammu in ₹50,000 Bribery Case

Jammu, March 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Section Officer of the Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section, Agriculture Production Department (APD), Civil Secretariat, Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 through an online UPI transaction.

According to a CBI spokesperson, a case was registered on March 5, 2025, against the accused following allegations that he had sought a bribe of ₹5 lakh from a complainant. The bribe was allegedly demanded to facilitate the appointment of the complainant’s father as a Stock Assistant in the department, in accordance with Advertisement No. 3 of 2007 issued by the J&K Service Selection Board (JKSSB) and a subsequent order of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Jammu, dated October 15, 2024. After negotiations, the accused reportedly agreed to accept an initial amount of ₹50,000 via online UPI, promising to demand the remaining amount after ensuring a favorable decision.

Acting on the complaint, CBI laid a trap on March 5, 2025, and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe through an online transaction at the mobile number provided by him. Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the accused’s residence in Jammu to gather further evidence.

The accused was produced before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, on March 6, 2025. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. The CBI has stated that the investigation into the case is ongoing.
