NEW DELHI, May 27: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a nationwide digital learning initiative aimed at improving academic accessibility and strengthening skill based education for senior secondary students across India.
The programme, introduced under the board’s expanding digital education framework, will provide students with free access to interactive study material, recorded lectures, assessment modules and career guidance resources through a unified online platform.
Education officials said the initiative is designed to support students preparing for board examinations as well as national level entrance tests including engineering, medical and management examinations. The digital portal will also focus on conceptual learning and practical application of subjects rather than rote memorisation.
According to CBSE authorities, the platform has been developed in collaboration with educational technology experts and experienced faculty members from leading institutions. The programme includes live doubt-clearing sessions, multilingual content and weekly evaluation tests to help students track their academic performance.
The board stated that one of the key objectives of the initiative is to reduce educational disparity between urban and rural students by providing equal access to high quality learning material. Officials said the online modules can be accessed through smartphones, tablets and computers, making them available to students in remote areas.
The initiative also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages integration of technology into mainstream education and promotes flexible learning systems.
CBSE officials noted that the programme places special emphasis on science, mathematics, coding, financial literacy and communication skills. Additional modules on artificial intelligence, environmental awareness and entrepreneurship have also been included to equip students with future-oriented competencies.
Teachers associated with the programme will undergo specialised training to adapt classroom teaching methods to digital platforms. The board believes that blending conventional teaching with technology based learning will improve student engagement and academic outcomes.
Educational experts have welcomed the move, describing it as a significant step towards modernising school education in the country. They said digital learning platforms can help students revise lessons more effectively and improve conceptual understanding through interactive formats.
Several school principals have expressed optimism regarding the programme, stating that it could help bridge learning gaps created by unequal access to coaching facilities and academic resources.
Parents have also appreciated the initiative, particularly the inclusion of career counselling sessions and mental wellness support modules. Education counsellors believe such resources are increasingly important for students facing academic pressure and career uncertainty.
The CBSE has announced that the platform will be expanded gradually to include middle school students and vocational education streams. Authorities are also planning to introduce region-specific educational content in additional Indian languages over the coming months.
Officials said regular feedback from students, teachers and schools will be used to improve the platform and introduce new features based on academic requirements.
The launch of the digital learning initiative reflects the growing emphasis on technology driven education reforms in India as educational institutions continue to adopt hybrid and online learning models.
