Srinagar, Oct 20: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed strong condemnation over a terror attack targeting non-local labourers in the Ganderbal district on Sunday. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Abdullah described the attack as a “dastardly and cowardly” act.
“Very sad news of a heinous attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in the Sonamarg region. These individuals were engaged in a significant infrastructure project in the area. Two have tragically lost their lives, and 2-3 others sustained injuries in this militant attack. I strongly denounce this attack on unarmed, innocent people and extend my deepest condolences to their families,” the Chief Minister stated.
The attack took place at a labour camp in the Gund area, where the workers were involved in the construction of a tunnel project. The assault resulted in the deaths of two labourers, while two others were left injured.
Political leaders across the spectrum voiced their condemnation. People’s Conference leader Sajad Gani Lone expressed his shock, calling it “an insane act of madness.” “Strongly condemn the heinous act of terror that claimed two lives in Sonamarg. My thoughts are with the families of the victims. Justice must be served,” Lone said in his post on X.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra also condemned the attack, highlighting his grave concern over the violence perpetrated by unidentified gunmen. Karra warned that such incidents could disrupt the region’s peace and urged the government to take swift and effective measures to prevent further attacks on innocent workers.
The attack has sparked widespread concern and condemnation, with calls for justice and increased security measures to protect vulnerable communities and workers in conflict-prone regions.
