Cold Wave Hits Jharkhand: Gumla Records Chilly 3.4°C

Sub-zero like chill in 10 districts as north-westerly winds push mercury down

Ranchi, Jan 5  – Cold wave conditions gripped several parts of Jharkhand on Monday, with the mercury plunging below 10 degrees Celsius in 10 districts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Lohardaga recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 3.4°C, followed closely by Gumla at 4.1°C and Latehar at 5.6°C. The state capital, Ranchi, registered a minimum of 6.4°C.

Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s Deputy Director Abhishek Anand attributed the temperature drop to prevailing north-westerly winds in the lower tropospheric levels.

Other districts experiencing sub-10°C conditions included Bokaro, Koderma, Hazaribag, Khunti, Simdega, and Palamu. Residents have been advised to take precautions against the cold wave and maintain proper health measures.
