Kalsotra led their delegation to meet SSP Jammu, wherein the delegation of villagers apprised the SSP about the rising cases of caste-based atrocities. Kalsotra said that such cases are being reported all across J&K. There are extensive examples of hate and caste-based crime wherein people from lower castes are attacked on daily basis. While SSP Jammu attended to the delegation, he also listened to the aggrieved party who said that they get attacked and are subjected to caste-based slurs. They had reported the matter to the police station but to no respite. The culprits are not booked and end up in compromise, thus denying justice to the victim.
Kalsotra said that cases like these should be booked under SC/ST Atrocities Act with immediate effect and such cases should become exemplary cases that could instill fear among the culprits and hope among the victims. He also suggested that the police force should be equipped with adequate training to report cases under SC/ST Atrocities Act with an emphasis on awareness about caste discrimination and how to promote harmony and equality in society.
