Mumbai, Feb 20 : The buzz surrounding Dhurandhar 2 certification rumours has intensified after a CBFC certificate marked “UA 16+” circulated widely on social media, leading many fans to believe the sequel had been cleared with a revised tone and locked runtime. However, reports indicate that the document pertains to the television premiere of the original film not the upcoming sequel.
According to media sources, the sequel has not yet been submitted for certification. Production wrapped only recently, and post-production work is still underway. As a result, claims about a confirmed rating or finalized runtime for the new instalment are premature.
Title confusion fuels speculation
Part of the misunderstanding stems from naming details. The sequel is being processed under the title Dhurandhar: The Revenge, while the viral certificate simply mentions Dhurandhar, pointing to the first film. This overlap in titles appears to have triggered the confusion online.
Why the rating changed
The original film had initially received an ‘A’ certificate with a runtime of 214 minutes. After certain objections were raised, edits were made and the film was re-certified at 208 minutes and 56 seconds. For its television broadcast, the runtime has been slightly trimmed further and the rating adjusted to UA 16+, a standard move since ‘A’-rated films cannot air on TV without modifications. Edits reportedly included muting strong language and trimming select sequences for broader viewership.
The satellite rights for the first film have been acquired by Star Gold, with the television premiere expected in early March.
Sequel set for theatrical release
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2 remains on track for a theatrical release on March 19, headlined by Ranveer Singh. The ensemble cast also features Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun.
For now, industry insiders advise fans to treat viral certification claims with caution, as the sequel’s official clearance process is yet to begin.
